(UPDATE) Added Deconstructed Template Spritesheet for Extra Pack owners

(UPDATE) For Paid RPG Type Retro Urban Characters - Base + Extra Pack:

In case you want customize characters further, I broke down every character I made into parts.

This comes as one (1) .png file that allows you to further modify or create new characters in any editing program (layers and tile features recommend) by mixing & matching elements that fit together.

LAYER ORDER (FROM TOP TO BOTTOM)

  1. HAIR BACK - facing north
  2. ARM
  3. HAIR FRONT/SIDE - facing south,west, and east
  4. HEAD / FACE
  5. BODY

This is intended to be a DIY editable template in line with the main spritesheet, just separated into parts for wider customization options. All characters are organized relative to their original positions in the main spritesheet but with ADDED COLUMNS to include the deconstructed parts/layers,

Please refer to the GUIDE.png file and take note of the original key/repeated frames before doing any major editing. I recommend reconstructing the initial characters first into layers before experimenting with possible combinations. Some character parts may be duplicates since they were extracted individually from each premade character.

Tips for editing:

A. Pixel Art Editing Program

  • Use any pixel art-ready editing program that supports layers (or tiles) and place the parts into their individual layers
  • Follow the layer order as indicated to prevent any unintended or awkward overlapping
  • Each character takes up 4 rows per cardinal direction (N,S,E,W). Base & extra pack characters are organized as they were in the original spritesheet, kindly follow the "base pack" and "extra pack" headings to see where they separate.
  • The parts take up the same space as indicated by the "idle 01", "idle 02", and "walk/run" guide columns and can just be combined together to create a full character.

B. Code / Game Engine swapping

  • Another option is to use code to swap the parts in your game engine, but you have to take into consideration that some characters have less frames for their idle animation such as glasses/shades/hooded characters and a few male characters have additional unique frames in their walk cycle.

DISCLAIMER: This is not a one-size fits all modular solution due to differences in designs but I wanted to go beyond providing a blank character template. This template is just a bonus, I originally made this file to make head swaps much easier to do, while certain combinations may require additional editing due to color and body shapes.

OTHER FIXES:

  • Fixed IDLE 02 frames of 3rd Extra Pack Character (row 9-12) - arms not raised in 1st uploaded version
